DHP Credits - Category 1 (5.25 hours), DHP Credits - Category 3 (2.75 hours), DHP Credits - Mixed Category 1 and 3 (8.00 hours), Non-Physician Participation Credit (8.00 hours)

One day sedation training program for health care professionals providing procedural sedation for children. The program includes lectures, group discussions, simulations, hands on skills training & assessments. Successful completion of this course is mandatory for sedation privileging at Sidra Medicine.

1. Differentiate between mild, moderate sedation, deep sedation, dissociation, and general anesthesia
2. Detail a thorough pre-sedation assessment of a pediatric patient
3. Evaluate and apply agents used for moderate sedation, dissociative sedation and deep sedation including indications, contraindications, dosage, administration, side effects and implications for care
4. Analyze data collected during a sedation to ensure complete and safe monitoring
5. Recognize patients at risk for developing upper airway obstruction
6. Discuss the nursing specifics of medication administration and the use the modified Aldrete score to guide discharge decisions
7. Describe sedation adverse events and required interventions to ensure a safe experience and positive outcome the essential features required for safe discharge post sedation
